Tell us a bit about yourself

I was born in Morpeth, Northumberland. I went to grammar school in Rowlands Gill. My first job was working for Rankins in Blaydon as a receptionist. I spent all my life working in the North East then trained to be a bookkeeper. I then started working at the portal. I’m also married and have a wonderful daughter who will shortly be 11.

What is your role at the North East Regional Portal?

I’m the bookkeeper for the Portal so I look after the books and accounts. I also look after the budget, it sounds simple but it’s much harder than you think!

What does your average day comprise?

I get up early as I have to get my daughter ready for school. I get to work, and then do the usual checking of e-mails. Then it depends, the work is so varied that two days are never the same!

Why do you enjoy living and working in the North East?

I’ve always lived here and I wouldn’t want to live anywhere else. The countryside and city are so close together but they’re still worlds apart. I love the contrast of having both within an easy drive of one another.

My mum was actually from Wiltshire and moved here when she was 21. She’s now 70 and doesn’t want to move, it must run in the family!

What is your dream or ambition?

My dream has always been to go the Grand Canyon. I don’t really know why, I just imagine it would be absolutely stunning. My ambition, which is more realistic at the moment, is to keep being a great mum.

What is your greatest achievement?

Simple. My marvellous daughter.

What do you enjoy doing when you’re not at work?

Watching the football. I’m a born and bred Geordie so love the Toon with a passion. I also love spending time with my family.
